Overview
The ArchiMate® Certification for People Program validates knowledge of the ArchiMate modelling language and supports professionals who use ArchiMate for architecture modelling and communication. This article answers common questions about how to achieve certification, available exam options, and the Open Book used in the Part 2 exam.
How Can I Achieve ArchiMate Certification?
To become certified:
- Choose the certification level you want to pursue (Foundation or Practitioner).
- Prepare through either:
- An accredited training course, or
- Self‑study using the ArchiMate Specification and supporting materials.
- Take and pass the applicable examination(s) for the level you selected.
Once you pass the required exam(s), you will be awarded the corresponding ArchiMate certification.
What Are the Available ArchiMate 3 Certifications?
The ArchiMate 3 Certification Program includes two levels:
- ArchiMate 3 Foundation
Validates knowledge of the basic concepts and core language elements. - ArchiMate 3 Practitioner
Demonstrates the ability to apply the ArchiMate modelling language in practice.
These certifications align with the ArchiMate Specification, Version 3.2.
Why Can’t I Book an ArchiMate 3 Combined Examination?
There is no Combined Part 1 and Part 2 exam for the ArchiMate 3 program.
Candidates must take the Foundation and Practitioner exams separately.
This differs from some other Open Group programs (such as TOGAF), which offer combined exam options.
What Is the Current Open Book Provided With the Part 2 Exam?
The Open Book supplied during the ArchiMate Part 2 (Practitioner) exam is:
- The ArchiMate 3.2 Specification
Version 3.2 is a minor maintenance update to the specification and reflects the latest version of the standard.
The Open Book is provided within the exam interface and can be accessed via the Reference button.
