When applying for an Open CA Experience Profile Milestone Badge, the method you cite must be a Recognized Method. If the method you used is not already recognized, you will need to submit it for review and approval.
This article explains when method recognition is required and how to submit a method for evaluation.
When Do I Need to Submit a Method for Recognition?
If the method you used in your Experience Profile is not currently listed as a Recognized Method, you must submit it for recognition:
- Before submitting your Experience Profile application, or
- At the same time as your Experience Profile application
Your Experience Profile cannot be approved unless the method you cite meets the recognition criteria.
How Do I Submit a Method for Recognition?
To request recognition of a new method:
- Download the Method Recognition Form and instructions from:
https://certification.opengroup.org/openca/methods - Complete the form with the required details about the method, including:
- Purpose and scope
- Key activities and deliverables
- How the method aligns with the Open CA conformance criteria
- Submit the completed form following the instructions provided on the website.
How Is the Method Reviewed?
A review board will evaluate your method against the published conformance criteria for methods. The review process typically:
- Takes several weeks
- Involves assessment by qualified Board Members
- Ensures the method is sufficiently structured, repeatable, and aligned with Open CA expectations
Once the review is complete, the Certification Authority will notify you of the outcome.
