Overview
Candidates sometimes need more than one attempt to pass a certification exam. This article explains the retake policy for exams delivered through Pearson VUE.
Is There a Retake Limit?
No.
There is no limit to the number of times you may retake a certification exam.
However, retakes are subject to specific rules to ensure fairness and exam integrity.
Retake Eligibility
You may only retake an exam if:
- You failed the previous attempt
- You have observed the required waiting period (see below)
If you pass an exam, you are not permitted to retake it.
Mandatory Waiting Period
A minimum one‑month waiting period applies between attempts.
This waiting period applies in all scenarios:
If you took a Combined Exam:
- You must wait one month before retaking any single part of that Combined Exam.
If you took a Single‑Part Exam:
- You must wait one month before retaking the same exam.
- If you want to take a Combined Exam that includes the part you previously attempted, you must also wait one month.
Important Note
These rules apply only to certification exams delivered through Pearson VUE.
Assessments taken within The Open Group Learning Management System (LMS) follow different retake policies, which are defined separately for each credential.
