Overview
The Open Group offers the option to take certification exams online through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE remote‑proctoring system. While this option is convenient, it may not be suitable for everyone. This article outlines how to determine whether online testing is the right choice for you.
1. Check Your Computer and System Compatibility
Before scheduling an online exam, ensure your computer meets all technical requirements.
You must complete:
- The system test and exam simulation
These checks confirm that your device, internet connection, webcam, microphone, and operating system are compatible with the OnVUE platform.
2. Review the Online Testing Protocol
Online exams have strict rules regarding:
- Your testing environment
- Allowed and prohibited items
- Room scans
- Behavior during the session
Make sure you understand what to expect before choosing this delivery method.
3. Consider Your Comfort Level
If you have any doubts or reservations about:
- Your testing environment
- Your internet stability
- Your ability to meet the online exam rules
- The reliability of your equipment
…then it is recommended that you schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE test center instead.
4. Using a Company‑Issued Computer?
If your computer is provided by your employer and is “locked down” (restricted permissions, admin controls, security software), it may not allow the OnVUE application to run properly.
In this case, it is strongly recommended to take your exam at a test center.
