To protect exam integrity and comply with global testing and export‑control requirements, OnVUE online proctored delivery has strict rules regarding acceptable identification (ID). Candidates must present a valid, government‑issued ID that meets Pearson VUE’s global ID standards. Certain forms of identification cannot be used for online proctored exams under any circumstances.
This article outlines the types of IDs that are not accepted for OnVUE delivery.
For the latest up to date information see the Pearson web site.
IDs That Are Not Accepted
The following forms of identification are prohibited for OnVUE online proctored exams:
1. Invalid or Unverifiable IDs
- Expired IDs
- Digital or electronic IDs (including mobile driver’s licences)
- Damaged, altered, or unreadable IDs
- Photocopies, scans, or printed copies of IDs
- Privately issued IDs (e.g., workplace badges, membership cards)
2. IDs Restricted by Law or Security Policy
Some IDs cannot legally be photographed or recorded and therefore cannot be used for OnVUE testing:
- Security or military IDs that prohibit imaging
- U.S. Senate, U.S. House, U.S. Military ID, DoD CAC, or other secure access credentials
- Geneva Convention ID card
3. Non‑photo or non‑government documents
These documents do not meet Pearson VUE’s requirements for identity verification:
- Birth certificates
- Naturalization or citizenship papers
- Canadian health insurance cards (not valid as primary ID)
4. IDs from Restricted Countries or Regions
Due to export‑control and regulatory restrictions, OnVUE delivery is not available in certain countries and regions. IDs issued by these locations cannot be used for online proctored exams:
- Belarus
- Cuba
- Iran
- North Korea
- Russia
- Syria
- Restricted regions of Ukraine (including Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk)
Candidates with passports from these countries may still test in person at an authorized test center, provided local regulations allow it. However, they cannot use OnVUE online proctoring.
Why These Restrictions Exist
These rules are required to:
- Ensure secure and consistent identity verification
- Comply with international export‑control laws
- Protect exam content and candidate privacy
- Maintain the integrity of The Open Group certification program
